Volunteering Made Easy

TeamWORKS

About the Program

Thank you for your interest in the Greater Lewisville Cares (GLC) TeamWORKS Program. TeamWORKS is a concept GLC developed to help groups come together to volunteer in the community. The unique aspect of TeamWORKS is that the team gets to set its own agenda. Your team picks the agency or area of interest it most wants to serve and how often to volunteer. The TeamWORKS Program offers complete flexibility. Presently, GLC TeamWORKS consists of groups from social clubs, churches, and scouts. They participate in a wide array of service projects including:

  • Home repairs for the elderly
  • Sorting food at local food pantry programs
  • Cleaning trash and debris from area lakes and waterways
  • Delivering meals to needy seniors
  • Building wheelchair ramps
  • Painting indoors and outdoors for schools, needy homeowners, or area charities
  • Beautification projects
  • Assisting athletic programs for Special Olympics
  • and more.

Volunteering in teams is a great way to build up the social ties within your group. It’s a fun way to get to know members of your organization, while at the same time giving to those less fortunate. It shows the community the power of your group and how you are working to make a difference. It also gives your team a better understanding of what the needs are in Denton County and how your collective talents and time can be used to make a greater impact for change.

As we work to set up your team, GLC asks you to select one or two individuals to step up and serve as the Team Captains. Team Captains are the primary points of contact when setting up projects and are responsible for making sure the team is aware of the times, dates, and requirements for volunteering at your group’s selected projects. The Team Captains need to attend a brief Project Coordinator Training Session to equip them with the tools and information needed to lead their team effectively.

GLC will work with your team and team captains to set a date for the group's orientation prior to the team's first project. The orientation may be a private one held on site at the group's regularly scheduled meeting (please allow us 1-2 weeks lead time for a private orientation) or members can attend one of the scheduled orientations GLC holds each month. Whatever works best for your team. Orientations are mandatory but brief meetings to familiarize your team with GLC and how we operate. Team members are given information about GLC, the monthly newsletter and asked to complete a Volunteer Application packet including a release form for adults and minor chinldren. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions about GLC and what volunteers can expect. Once a team members has attended an orientation for GLC, they are welcome to volunteer as individuals as well if they wish. Members with children under the age of 18 may wish to save time and complete a release waiver for their children in case they may volunteer with them in the future separate from the team.

Now your team is ready to get involved. When setting up a new project, we ask that you give us about four to five weeks lead time to get a project scheduled especially if you are a team of over 20.
