Volunteering Made Easy

Who We Are

Our Mission

Greater Lewisville Cares (GLC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, engages volunteers to strengthen our community by providing diverse service opportunities within Denton County.

About GLC

Greater Lewisville Cares (GLC) is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established by a handful of Denton County residents in an effort to engage volunteers to strengthen the community by providing service opportunities in partnership with area agencies. Similar "hands on" volunteer agencies have been extremely successful in other major cities because of their uniqueness in providing flexible, direct service volunteer opportunities for all ages. GLC is the first of its kind in the state of Texas however.

This is a free service for volunteers and agencies. Volunteers are recruited, trained (if needed) and placed into these service opportunities in a way that works for them. They may volunteer as little or as much as they like in any area of interest to them.

GLC differs from other volunteer organizations because it meets the needs of modern citizens by extending programs beyond simple agency referral. GLC guides the entire service experience, beginning with recruitment, moving through project management, and finally, addressing retention and recognition. This process for transforming an initial interest in helping into a meaningful service experience has proven effective for both adult and youth volunteers in other cities across the U.S. as well.

While GLC has been founded with the goal to provide flexible, accessible opportunities to volunteer in the community, we also see volunteering as an entry point for greater civic engagement. By infusing volunteers with education on the issues they affect through service, and opportunities to network with other concerned citizens, we build community in every sense, generating social capital crucial for healthy civic life.

Greater Lewisville Cares has set forth a list of priorities we feel address our current community needs and work to get volunteers engaged in service to fill these needs. They include but are not limited to the following: children/families, education, hunger/needy, elderly, building programs, environment, and animals. Volunteer opportunities are identified in several ways:

  • GLC searches for agencies working in these areas to create projects for those volunteers expressing an interest in a particular area.
  • GLC is approached by agencies in need of volunteers.
  • GLC volunteers working in the community find an unmet need and express a desire to assist in filling in the gaps of service.
